London Fashion Weekend February 2011

Lucky me! For Valentines day Craig bought me a GOLD ticket for London Fashion Weekend, and our friend Elliot bought his girlfriend Leigh, (you can see her blog HERE), one also so that we could go together - Lucky Ladies!

I got up at 8 on Saturday morning and had NO idea what to wear so panicked and wore all black...it was a rubbish rainy day anyway so I think it was for the best! Leigh and I met at Temple tube station and splashed over to the entrance of Somerset House - my beautiful Urban Outfitters suede ankle boots getting trashed in the process, 'sigh'.

Although it's always fun to have a look around, I'm never impressed by the shopping stands at Fashion Weekend - I think it's because it reminds me of a busy jumble sale and I am a RUBBISH rummager so can never find anything! Leigh however bought a lovely, unique and 'very Leigh' dress from a grunge-ish style stall.

Next season I will make a concious effort to get to the catwalk show space at least half an hour early as when we got there 10 minutes before it was already pretty much full up and our seats didn't have as good a view as I would have liked - it was near the end of the catwalk though which was good. Also unless you're maybe size 12 or under your arse is not going to fit in the allocated seating space! I felt like a tuna chunk!

I find the whole 'presenter' thing very tacky, time wasting and Birmingham Clothes show style and it annoys me that the majority of the show is one big advertisement!!!!!!! BUT, a catwalk show is a catwalk show and I enjoyed just being there nevertheless! The lights when down, energetic music blasted out from every direction and the show began.

Swan Vesta
One of the more enjoyable collections of the show, Swan Vesta took inspiration from the dark yet beautiful film 'Black Swan', combining pieces from the likes of Alexander McQueen, John Rocha and Alexander Wang to create drama and theatre on the runway.

Bora Aksu
London based designer Bora Aksu created his Fall collection after studying ants, that's right, ants!

Lady Brights
The Lady Brights collection showed us bold, bright & Beautiful with a 70's feel with the colour blocking trend of this season in mind! Loose blouses, pencil skirts and lots and lots of colour clashing!

Mark Fast
The headlining Collection of London Fashion Weekend February 2011 was Mark Fast. Models in skin tight dresses with knitted detail and rainbow coloured fringing were sent down the runway alongside girls in extravagant long, loose flowing dresses. The collection gave off a very hippy feel - just in time for festival season!

I found the choice of models interesting as they didn't seem to 'go together' as a whole. It all seemed a bit mismatched. One girl for example was so VERY VERY skinny and as the rest of the girls were all shorter and healthier looking she looked out of place. I personally have no problem with thin models - she may just be naturally thin - and besides, models are supposed to act as almost like coat hangers. But because of the huge contrast between her and the others girls you could sense that 'Oh my gosh, she's so thin!'moment as she walked out onto the catwalk.

After the show we walked through Covent garden towards Oxford Street...shopping as we went! (I will post photos of new clothes up shortly) I had a lovely day out - it's always good to get away for the day and do something different! Bring on September I say!
