PPQ Fall 2011

As much as I hate to admit this, I sometimes doubt my future career in fashion. Sometimes I feel as though I don't have what it takes...we all know competitive the industry is.

Anyway, thanks to a friend I ended up dressing backstage for the PPQ show. I was nervous as I didn't know what to expect - but I was reassured by said friend that it was fun and that there was nothing to worry about!

She was right...after ten minutes of being there I relaxed and felt at home. My assigned model was Kelli Lumi:

As you can see from the image of Kelli above, makeup for the show was very simple, yet striking all the same. I loved the plaits in front of the ears and the red lipstick added even more glamour to the show! Some models had bright, dazzling sparkly red lips which looked AMAZING...I really need to find out how they did that!

Kelli's first outfit, (#10 on the catwalk), was a gorgeous knee length purple dress worn with grey heels decorated with faux fur and lace. She wore a tall black 'feline inspired hat' and had to carry a bag...which was set inside a BLOCK OF GLASS. It was very heavy so well done Kelli!

Her second dress, dress number 24 to grace the runway, was a little black number worn with thigh boots with a lace trim.

My job was to quickly change her into the next outfit and to make sure that all clothes and accessories for my model were perfect before and after the show. It went so quickly due to all of the rushing and excitement that it didn't feel like any time had passed at all...and then it was over! It certainly did NOT feel like work. I could do that every day.

It was then time for the after party! On reaching Millbank tower where the party was being held, we were let in ahead of the never-ending queue, escorted to the elevator by a lady dressed as an air hostess and then sent up to floor 29 to the Sky Bar! My ears popped.

The bar was just breath taking. I'm used to the scummy bars/clubs of Southampton and nothing had prepared me for such an upgrade of class. Red and pink lights bounced around the room whilst men in designer suits and women in stilettos stood chatting and drinking cocktails and the view was sensational looking over what appeared to be the whole of London! The nicest view I've ever previously had from a bar was one time when I was out in Brighton and the smoking area looked out onto Brighton beach. The toilets had an assistant who handed me tissue to dry my hands and said 'love' a lot...and at first glance I hadn't the slightest clue how to work the taps!

With the cheapest drink on the menu being £12.95 for a vodka and mixer I was lucky that it was an open bar. I ordered one and watched as the bartender poured vodka into my glass like it was water.

I had an amazing weird and wonderful night full of beautiful people and luxury. My experience working with PPQ has most definitely removed any doubt about what I want to do with my future. I can't imagine working in anything else but fashion...I just love it too damn much!
