FASHION YOUR SEATBELTS RE-STYLE

Good evening beautiful people, I just wanted to let you know that I'm changing my blog a little, don't worry not too much, but I feel as though Fashion your Seatbelts needs a purpose, something which sets it apart from other blogs and makes you readers want to come and visit! I've done some soul searching today and thought about what makes me 'me' and tried to figure out what my blog can offer you - I can't draw and so can't give you beautiful illustrations, I'm not very good at sewing even though I wish I was, and although I enjoy it as a hobby, I'm not the greatest photograher. What is my talent?

I'm good at putting things together. It sounds so simple, but that truly is where my talents lie, I think. I think I can write okay to. But anyway, I like piecing items of clothing together, so styling, and I LOVE bringing together a photoshoot. My goal therefore, is to become a stylist and eventually a creative director, and what better way to start my fashion journey than to use this blog as an outlet of my creative ability!?

From now on then, I promise to start posting more fashion related posts and use my (hopefully) good sense of styling to share with you how I dress and why. I'm sure none of you NEED help in deciding what to wear but sometimes it's just nice to seek inspiration from others! Oh, another thing, I was talking with my tutor today and she pinpointed exactly why I love to read the features in Elle magazine - honesty - and I promise to be honest with you and to tell you what I really think/wear and why. I'm really looking forward to this new challenge!

If you're new to my blog, this is a fresh start after all, then  below are some images of me wearing one of my favourite dresses. It was from Topshop and I bought it when shopping with my Mum to wear on my 20th birthday I think. I always wear it with a waist belt because I feel like I'm wearing a nighty otherwise!

 Dress: Topshop
Shoes: Topshop

I wear this coat WAY too much. It was £2 from a charity shop and it's not as warm as I would like, but it's comfortable and practical! Next winter I'm definitely going to buy myself a sensible warm AND waterproof coat - WITH A HOOD! I also live in this hat when it's cold, it keeps my ears warm and I love the colour.

I love these shoes!

What is my style? I tend to wear dark things a lot, black, navy, burgundy, this is only since I dyed my hair darker as I now find that bright colours don't suit me. I have a selection of lovely baby blue dresses that used to go so well with my white blonde hair that just look awful on me now, I've had to change my entire style just because of my hair colour! I like high waisted skirts and shorts, I will only wear high waisted skirts and shorts, and always clinch dresses in at the waist.

I'd say my style is a mix of feminine and androgynous, and a collaboration of old and new...if you like the sound of it then please do stick around :)

Oh also, the rat in my blog header is called Elfin :)

FASHION FIND: Flesh Machine

New to UNESTABLISH, Flesh Machine consists of a cool collection of unisex cotton knitted t-shirts. Ranging in prices from £20 to £40, these tees are great for a fussy boyfriend who wont shop at Topman any more because "everyone shops there", or if you want something a bit special and different for yourself! I think that the grey "Devoid" design below would look great worn baggy and tucked into a pair of black high waisted shorts, or alternatively worn with leggings!

What I wore when

Hooray! I'm feeling better after sleeping for two days with a high temperature and headache so today I actually left my house and took some photos of a local band for my friend's university project.

I got this months issue of Elle through the post this morning and I was happy to see Alexa Chung on the front - I haven't had a chance to read it yet but did see that the freebie was a Soap & Glory mascara! I gave it a quick try and took some before and after photos for you, the light was really odd today and kept changing so my eyes look different colours in each photo!

 Before

 After

I must say I'm pretty happy with the results, especially as it was free! It elongated my lashes rather than thickened them but I don't usually like to wear heavy mascara any way so I don't mind. Also I'm sure if I put more on they would look thicker. I cut my fringe this morning, sigh, when will I learn!? It was majorly in my eyes and I don't want to waste money on a hair cut just yet, I'd rather wait until I go home and go to my regular hairdresser...it's not TOO wonky any way ;)

This is what I wore today, it was bloody freezing so i wish I'd worn jeans to be honest! I'm going over to my boyfriend's now to have chicken burgers for tea! I'm going to bring my Elle so I can read it this evening when he's being boring!

Oh, how we've changed!

These photos of my boyfriend and I were taken on nights out, the second was taken approximately a year after the first. It's so strange how different we both look after just one year! I'm trying to work out which looks I prefer most, and to be honest I can't decide! I don't really miss my blonde hair because it made my hair bad condition and I think it washed me out a little...but after comparing these images I don't know which hair colour suits me more!?

As for Craig, his newer more mature look is great, and I know he LOVES his beard, (ergh), but I do miss my baby faced boy with the cheek bones to die for! I think his beard covers his face too much...what do you think!? Has your appearance changed much in the last year?

What I wore when

I went out for a friend's birthday on Tuesday and so took the opportunity to wear my new(ish) YOUREYESLIE dress which I am so so in love with! I paired it with my new belt from Charming Magpies, tights, knee high socks and heeled wedges.

I've been ill today which is annoying, I have a headache and temperature so slept in the afternoon...then I made myself chicken soup, a classic 'ill' food and I spilt it all over my bed, foot and pyjamas, gosh. A plus about today is that I did make it to my new visual merchandising unit in the morning and it seems like it's going to be quite fun! As well as this, the final things I have to do before graduating is my ongoing final major project, a unit in freelancing and a unit on law 0_o (Really not looking forward to that one!) Is anyone else graduating this year?

Dress: £40, YOUREYESLIE
Belt: £4.50 Charming Magpies
Tights & socks: Primark

CHARMING MAGPIES VINTAGE: My new job!

As promised, here are some photos I took the other day of my new work place! It's such a quaint and special little shop, when I'm there it doesn't even feel like work! If you're in the area then you should definitely come in and say hi, if not then don't worry cos they have an online ebay store to! ^_^ Anyways, my day to day tasks here include merchandising, taking photographs and making mood boards!

I've just made them a new page on facebook so show some love and like please! :)

Blogging is Therapy

I wasn't really sure what image would most reflect what I'm trying to say in this post so I just used one of me holding a good cuppa'. Now, I really don't like to use my blog as an outlet for rants about my life, but this isn't a rant as such, and I feel as though this post will find a nice home here, nestled in between all of my other more interesting posts about fashion and photography!

Basically, I've had a bad day, and yesterday wasn't great either. I started back at uni yesterday after a hefty six week or so break for Christmas, but rather than making me feel alive and motivated like I thought it would, it's made me feel fed up, frustrated and just generally down in the dumps. Somehow everything has annoyed me today...from waking up to a grotesquely messy kitchen this morning, (NOT my mess), to sitting in a lecture about law, (of all things to teach us about on a fashion course!?), to opening the washing machine door and floods of water pouring out onto the floor...bad day!

To make matters worse, in this negative state of mind the thought of where I'll be in three months time when I finish uni has started to terrify me. I don't want to move home with my parents because they live too far from London, but it's very unlikely that I'll actually be able to afford to live in London, let alone intern for free! (Apparently that's the only way in to fashion these days).

The prospect of pursuing my dreams in London seems so far away, impossible even, but the thought of not achieving them is heartbreaking! I know you have to work hard in order to get where you want to be in life, and I am willing to do that, but it just all seems a bit out of reach at the moment...and as I'm being kicked out into the 'real' world in just three months, this scares me a little! Despite all of this however, at least I'll always have my blog. No matter where I am in the world or what I'm doing, I'll still be able to feel part of something and feel connected to my most burning passion in life, fashion, so long as I have my blog.

I feel a little better now after writing on here, blogging literally is like therapy, does anyone else feel better after posting!? It's like a drug, I love it! Thank you to any one who reads this, or to any one who reads my blog in general, it's a privilege to post for you! I'm going to leave all of this negativity behind now and get ready to go out to celebrate Leigh's birthday which was a few days ago, going to wear my new 'Youreyeslie' dress!

DIXI PREVIEWS!

I've mentioned Dixi to you before, but I just wanted to let you know that recently, they've really stepped up their game and have so many bargains just waiting to be snapped up!  They've started selling 'Treats', where they're offering you the chance to buy a set of items in bulk at amazing prices rather than just one item at a time; the image below for example shows a set that was just £32 for all of those beautiful bits!

They sell both new and old items which is nice because you get more variation when browsing through! The one-off vintage pieces do sell out pretty quickly but that's all the more reason to follow them on facebook and twitter and check the site regularly so that you can buy the best bargains first! Today however is your lucky day, and I'm going to give you a sneeky peek at what new items Dixi will have available for you this evening so that if you like something, you'll have an advantage over any other shopaholics who may be lurking on the site!

Shawl Set

 Festival Set

Chelsea Ankle Boots

 Gold woven bag set

Wait, it gets better! Dixi are offering a 10% discount code exclusively for you guys! Simply enter FASHIONYOUR10XO at the checkout every time you make a purchase with Dixi to claim your discount ^^ Let me know if you buy anything, I always love seeing what other people have bought themselves...probably because I can't afford to shop at the moment! :'( Happy shopping!

Mr Thomas's Birthday!

Last night we went out for my boyfriend's 23rd birthday and I wore my new dress and shoes^^ I also took the advice of a fellow blogger and wore a bow in my hair! Thank you to everyone who made suggestions about how to wear my hair for the occasion by the way, you were all so lovely and helpful!

I actually decided to wear the dress backwards because there was a horrible seam and split down the front which was a bit strange...does any one else have certain items of clothing that they choose to wear backwards in order to make it look or fit better!?
