CHRISTMAS PRESENTS & NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS

Happy New Years Eve! What does everyone have planned this evening? My housemates and I are having a cocktail party, but I still have no idea what I'm wearing.... I'm torn between my new floral tapestry dress or my new Topshop skirt, but then I'd have to decide on a top to wear with it, hmm! Anyway, whilst we're still in 2012 I thought I'd show you some of the lovely Christmas presents I received last week.

I read a post by Karina over at Beach & Dress about 2012 achievements and goals for 2013, which got me thinking not only about my own new years resolutions but also all of the things that I've already accomplished in the past year, (PMA). I think I often beat myself up for not being good enough, but when I actually take a step back and consider my life properly, I don't think I'm doing all that bad. Life could be a lot worse.

2012 WAS THE YEAR THAT I...

...graduated with a University degree in Writing, Fashion & Culture.
...moved to London to pursue a career in Fashion.
...got my first "real" job.
...was shortlisted for the Cosmo blog awards.
...reached over 700 blog followers.
...had my work published in a magazine.
...decided to grow my hair.
...grew up.

2013 WILL BE THE YEAR THAT I...

...make lots of friends in London.
...become more comfortable in my own skin.
...pay off my overdraft and start saving for the future.
...visit Belgium.
...reach over 1000 blog followers.
...excel in my current position at work.

MOTEL CHRISTMAS PARTY 2012 VIDEO

Despite its recent increase in popularity, I've never created a video blog myself because I hardly have a TV personality, and well, I cringe every time I see or hear myself recorded.... that's exactly what I did when I saw myself chatting away on this Motel Rocks video! I thought I'd share it with you any way though as it was a great night - keep an eye open for some of my favourite bloggers to!

FIFI LAPIN & FLORAL TAPESTRY

Yesterday I braved the Christmas sales and as well as the few discounted pieces I picked up, I bought this floral tapestry dress from River Island, I'd already admired it online so when I saw it in store I had to have it! I wouldn't usually splash out £40 on a dress for the hell of it, but I love its versatility - I could wear this on a night out, but I could also make it more casual for work with a pair of tights and a cardi!

This delightful Fifi Lapin iPhone case is from iconemesis - take a look at their wide variety of designs here.

SHOPPING THE HIGHSTREET FOR NEW YEARS EVE

IMAGE TAKEN FROM TUMBLR

Once again I've left it to the last minute to find myself the perfect party dress for New Years Eve, and with the event coming up this Monday, a mere four sleeps away, these next few days are my last chance to find a festive frock. As it's now too late to shop online, (which can be risky business anyway trying to determine which size to buy and what-not), I've decided to hit the high street instead, so I'll be shopping for my NYE assemble this weekend when back in London.

I've been doing some pre-shopping research online to see what's available, so thought I'd put together a little edit for you! Below are my favourite picks from two of the high street stores I'll be visiting on Saturday, my first point of call being Cos. I love the simplicity of their clothes, the monochrome colours and clean silhouettes create a very chic, sophisticated look perfect for New Years Eve!

Unfortunately a lot of the pieces that I want are sold out in my size, including this gorgeous pleated velvet dress, but I was given a Cos gift card for Christmas at work, (what amazing people I work with), so I'm going to pop in anyway to hopefully get some sale items and maybe even treat myself to this or these!

As I'm sure you can already see, I'm looking for a dress in a dark colour, I love wearing black, navy, dark green or burgundy, and I'd prefer something with sleeves. If I can find something with a collar, sequins or sparkles to then that's a bonus! I've seen so many beautiful dresses on the Topshop website, I really can't wait to visit the store, I truly fear for my bank balance...truly!

I'd also like to see what Zara, H&M and Warehouse have to offer, and of course I'll be having a rummage through the sale rails to, (if there's anything left)! Have you already chosen your New Years Eve outfit?

I LOVE H&M / THE PEOPLE STORIES

Last week I popped into to H&M's Oxford Circus store on my way back from work to pick up a birthday present for my housemate, whilst there I couldn't help but have a cheeky peek at the sale! Despite loving the brand in general, I usually find myself unimpressed by their clearances as it's usually just a load of basic crap, but this time I stumbled across these wine trousers for just £10! Bargain!

WINE TROUSERS: H&M

Yesterday I traveled down from London to Somerset, then on to Devon where I'm staying for the Christmas holidays. I plan to spend the next week eating, sleeping, playing with Elfin, (my pet rat who now lives with my family), and I may even walk the dog once or twice, get some fresh air and that. Being here has made me feel more Christmassy - four more sleeps! ^_^

Whilst I have you here I'd also like to introduce you to a website I came across called 'The People Stories', which is "an online photojournal offering an insider’s view of creative individuals’ homes and workspaces." It's a lovely, inspirational little site full of nice photos and they're also currently running a competition to win a signed copy of the book, 'Sew Over it: Sew it, Wear it, Love it', by Lisa Comfort - perfect for any craft lovers out there! In order to be in the chance of winning, all you have to do is like their facebook page HERE, and follow them on twitter HERE. THE IMPORTANCE OF FRIENDSHIP

Yesterday was my last day at work for the year, so today I had a wonderful day off with which I could do whatever I pleased! I got up at 8.30am, saw my boyfriend off to work, made myself a cuppa, and then spent my morning watching 'The Wedding Date'. Oh how I do love a good romcom! I then headed into central to meet a friend for lunch, (I'm sure you all know of the lovely Leigh from Fox & Feather). We went to Starbucks, had a catch up and raided the Warehouse sale before heading back to mine for some mulled wine and Gossip Girl!

Despite living in London, one of the most exciting, inspirational cities in the world, I often find myself feeling lonely. I love my job, I love my house and I love London. But many of my friends, and I mean my closest friends who seem to be on exactly the same "wave length" as me, who make me laugh till it hurts, and who can make me smile even when I'm crying, are scattered across the country. I wish I could move them all to London to live with me!

Spending today with a friend made me think about how precious friendship is.

THE MANY HAIRSTYLES OF ALISON NIX

I've always been fascinated by high fashion models, beautiful, strange, elegant creatures that they are.... let's face it, they're not "normal" are they? They're a superior race of evolved human beings. They're usually the ones who're bullied at school for being too tall, too skinny, flat chested or weird looking, then they're snapped up by modelling agencies and go on to rule the fashion world, leaving the bullies behind with dumbstruck looks on their faces.

I recently came across the lovely Alison Nix, an American model who, relatively new to the fashion scene, started her career in 2009 sporting long mousy brown hair. In 2011 she chopped it all off into a short bob, showing off her high cheekbones and strong jaw; it is with this hairstyle that I discovered her. My thoughts immediately went to Alexa Chung, that's who she reminds me of, with her edgy hair and long limbs.

BEFORE

 AFTER
A few weeks down the line when I researched her a second time, I was surprised to see that she'd bleached her hair blonde! At first I was a little disappointed as darker hair had suited her so well, but after watching her model tape I've decided that she's so breathtakingly beautiful, with characteristics to match, that she can pull off any hair style she bloody well wants! Which style do you think suits her best?

Since starting her modelling career, Alison has worked with many women's clothing brands, including Acne, Kenzo and Stella McCartney. She's also appeared in the likes of Marie Claire Italy, Vogue Germany and Glamour; I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of her in 2013!

VELVET BODICE PROM DRESS FROM MOTEL

Tis the season to look lovely, which means it's that time of the year again when I look in my wardrobe and think, "shit". I may complain on a daily basis that "I have nothing to wear", but seriously, my lack of occasion-wear is just embarrassing!

Luckily I was invited to attend Motel's Christmas party where they were giving away dresses to the first fifty bloggers who walked through the door.... and I just so happened to be one of those fifty! I chose this delicious velvet, lace and net mix - a modern, and slightly gothic, take on the LBD! (The skirt is a bit see through which is disappointing, but it's nothing a little black skirt or pair of cycling shorts can't fix.)

I'll definitely be wearing this to one of my upcoming Christmas events; I love the velvet bodice, and the net skirt gives loads of volume, which is not only flattering for my figure but also makes me feel like I've just stepped off of the set of a Tim Burton movie, which is my favourite kind of feeling. Have a look at their gorgeous range of winter party dresses for yourself here.

SUNDAY IS MY FAVOURITE KIND OF DAY

Gone are the days when Sundays were my least favourite day of the week, (the day I spent most of my teenage years working), now, living in London and working full time, Sunday seems to be a very special day indeed.

Today I headed East to Columbia road where each Sunday there's a flower market. Instead of stalls and stalls of flowers however, this week there were hundreds of Christmas trees! It was really nice to see everyone leaving with their trees, off to decorate their houses! Whilst there we checked out a few of the quirky little boutiques to!

TARTAN SKINNY JEANS: RIVER ISLAND

From Columbia road we ventured towards Brick Lane where Glass Boutique currently have a pop up shop. I don't know if you remember me rambling on about it but Glass was the first place I interned after uni, so it was great to go back and see what they're up to these days! Opening up their studio doors to the public, Glass invite you in for an exclusive look at their current stock; have a rummage, try on the pieces you like, and even sit down for a chat with a glass of delicious Swedish mulled wine!

If you're around Shoreditch at all this week, be sure to go and check it out, and maybe treat yourself to something Sessun! They're based in the Old Truman Brewery next to 93 feet East.
