TRENDS: AW13

When on Friday morning I awoke to torrential rain and thunder, my immediate thought was "what the fuck am I going to wear today?" Having only recently gotten used to dressing for summer and purchasing a pair of sandals, I felt it a little cruel to be so suddenly plunged back into soggy weather... Britain is so difficult to dress for!

Speaking of soggy weather, I couldn't help but notice all of the autumn trends sneaking back into the magazines and I thought it would be nice to share my favourites with you! I'm not one to follow trends religiously but of course I'm influenced by what's available to buy on the high street and it's always interesting to see what's come through from catwalks.

MOODY FLORALS
A modern twist on a usually rather traditional trend, florals are set to be big this autumn but the prints are looking darker, moodier and more complex than in previous seasons. This reminds me a little of the hyper floral trend from last summer when I bought myself a beautiful, silk bomber jacket from Zara - I bet they get some great moody floral pieces back in for Autumn to!

EMBELLISHMENT
Replacing statement jewellery, embellishment on clothing is a great new way to get that "dressy" look for an evening out, but it can also be worn in a more casual way as demonstrated here at the Preen show where a soft, slouchy jumper has been embellished. I love this!

FEATHERS
I'm so glad that feathers are due a comeback; I've always wanted a feather skirt and I would love a dress to... I remember seeing one in the Warehouse sale last year but they didn't have my size left by the time I got to it, darn! I love the feminine, whimsical look they can add to an outfit.

GRUNGE
An obvious favourite, I love the simplicity of this updated "less 90's" looking grunge - it's modern and chic. I love wearing dark colours, especially throughout winter, so personally I can't wait to see the shops filled with black and grey! I'd wear this look with Dr Marten shoes, a chunky pair of creepers or ankle boots, (very practical for winter weather)!

VINYL
Although I'm still a bit weary of wet-look fabrics, (I'm just not sure how flattering they are), I really loved Topshop Unique's range of vinyl skirts. I love the idea of wearing one with a slouchy, casual jumper for a complete clash of texture! I'll definitely be purchasing one for myself this autumn; I think I'm ready!

I also saw in ASOS magazine that masculine shoes are "a thing" this season, which I'm very excited about cos I love a good brogue or pair of DMs! What trends are you most looking forward to wearing when the weather turns sour?

  4. Don't think I like the feathers and vinyl much - but especially the grunge, I can see myself wearing!
